Notice Regarding Discontinuance of Retail Banking Services at Bank of China (Canada) Montreal Branch


 

Dear Retail Clients at Bank of China (Canada) Montreal Branch,

Starting on January 27, 2025, Bank of China (Canada) (“the Bank”) will discontinue the retail banking services at the Montreal branch due to a business decision. In this regard, we provide you the details are as follows:

1.The types of retail banking services to be discontinued

All over-the counter retail banking services currently provided to you by Bank of China (Canada) Montreal Branch, including: Cash deposit, cheque deposit, cash withdrawal, account opening, issuance of bank draft/certified cheque.

2. Arrangement for Current Over-the Counter Retail Services

  • Retail Deposit Accounts

    After January 27, 2025, your personal accounts opened with Bank of China (Canada) Montreal Branch will be still active but will be transferred to Bank of China (Canada) Toronto Downtown Branch, and it will be your home branch. If you would like to open a new account with the bank, you could choose the Toronto Downtown Branch, or any other branches. For the branches location, please check http://www.bankofchina.com/ca/.

  • Cash Deposit, Cash Withdrawal, Over-the Counter Cheque Deposit

    You could use other local banks in the area for such banking service.

  • Issuance of Bank Draft/certified cheque

    You could choose other local banks for issuance of bank draft.

  • Banking Statement

    Your monthly banking statements or tax documents will be provided and mailed to your most recent address on file by the Toronto Downtown Branch.

3.Public Consultation

The Bank will hold consultation and public engagement activities at the Montreal Branch with the affected clients in order to be transparent. We would provide an explanation and address any customer concerns. These include:

  • Branch Manager Meet Day on the last Friday in each month from September 20, 2024 until January 24, 2025, by appointment.
  • In-branch Information Discussions with briefing by Customer Service Representatives offered on the last Friday in each month from September 20, 2024 until January 24, 2025, by appointment.
  • Extended Office Hours Consultations and Inquires by Montreal branch staff on duty, Available from 5:00 pm to 5:30 pm after branch business hours on last Friday of each month September 20, 2024 until January 24, 2025. 
  • The Commissioner of Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (“FCAC”) may require the Bank to convene and hold a meeting between representatives of the Bank, FCAC and interested parties in the vicinity of the branch, in order to exchange views about the proposed discontinuance of retail service. If this is the case, a notice will be posted at the Montreal Branch and published on the Bank’s website http://www.bankofchina.com/ca/.

4.Information of the branch discontinuing retail banking services
