Job Description

Internal Job Title: Associate Vice President (AVP) – Risk Management

Reporting to: VP of Risk Management Department

Position Summary:

The AVP of the Risk Management Department will be responsible for credit review and approval, policy development and updates as well as other credit management functions. The individual is also expected to provide a broad range of analytical and research support, especially in risk rating model, credit portfolio stress testing, portfolio management and industry & country risk research. Frequent communication with business unit, the Board of Directors and regulators are required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the credit review team, centralized review and approval for the whole Bank’s portfolio, including syndication, commercial loan, commercial mortgage, residential mortgage and trade finance;
  • Oversee the validation and effectiveness of the risk rating model, benchmarking with the industry and peers;
  • Enhance the credit management for specialized industry, including Oil & Gas, Mining and Real estate construction;
  • Frequent contact and communication with Senior Management, external auditor, Board of Directors and regulators;
  • Conduct appropriate assessments of Borrower proposals (within delegated authority), conduct Due Diligence and recommend (where above limit) new/ existing credit applications, reviews, renewals and amendments on a timely basis to designated approver(s) for designated accounts;
  • Oversee the effective Monitoring of the Portfolio through the use of individual assessments, internal and external reporting and regular ad hoc site visits;
  • Lead and conduct the credit stress testing;
  • Actively involved in the Credit Review Committee, a senior management level committee in charge of review and approval, the Risk Management Committee (Senior Management Level), and Risk Policy Committee (Board level).
  • Lead and conduct assigned research on borrower, portfolio and economic topics.
  • Perform all department head’s responsibilities in the absence of the VP Risk.
  • Other duties as assigned by Chief Risk Officer from time to time. 

Job Specifications

  • 5 years or above local corporate banking experience in the field of syndication and corporate loans;
  • Strong knowledge and experience in industries such as Oil & Gas, Mining, real estate will be an asset;
  • Familiar with the OSFI regulation and guidelines on credit risk;
  • Relevant post-secondary education with Diploma/Degree in Business Administration, Accounting ,Finance or Economics;
  • Independently review, assess and scrutinize Financial and Borrower information in order to develop a strong rationale in the adjudication and/or onward recommendation of credit proposals;
  • High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and applications, including MS Office Suite
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skill
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and work accurately within deadlines
  • Adaptability and flexibility to deal with a rapidly changing environment
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team and manage multiple priorities and timelines
  • Excellent team player and friendly cooperating with other team members.
  • Good communication with other departments and branches and external relationships.
