Risk Alert on Preventing Fraud Involving Fake Bank Domains and Email Impersonation

Dear Customer,
Recently, some criminals have been conducting fraud by creating fake domains that closely resemble our official domain and impersonating bank employees through fraudulent emails or SMS messages. These tactics are used to deceive customers into clicking phishing links, disclosing sensitive information, or changing beneficiary account details, thereby posing a serious threat to the security of customer funds and data.
To effectively protect your assets and prevent telecommunications and online fraud, our bank issues the following important reminder:
Criminals often use forged email accounts to impersonate bank staff with the intent to steal sensitive information or initiate unauthorized transactions. Please remain vigilant and pay attention to the following common signs of fraud:
- Small changes in the email domain e.g. spelling errors, letter substitutions, deceptive, domain endings;
- Email addresses that are unusual or do not match known contacts;
- Emails that convey a strong sense of urgency;
- Instructions requesting complete secrecy;
- Emails with questionable links;
- Irregular updates of account information;
- Additional common tactics may include fake phone calls or fraudulent SMS messages pretending to be from our Branch. These requests had a fraudulent background and are not from Bank of China Limited, Geneva branch.
Recommended best practices:
- Always verify any new or amended payment instructions through a validated channel, such as a known phone number;
- Maintain updated communication channels with your business partners e.g. phone, email;
- Be aware that email communication can be intercepted or manipulated and does not guarantee full security;
- Never share your e-banking login credentials, passwords, or verification codes with anyone;
- Please note that Bank of China Limited, Geneva branch does not work with natural persons and its mission is to serve corporate clients and financial institutions only.
