Safety Tips on Preventing Fraud by Impersonating the Name of Bank of China

Scam Alert:

We are aware of a sophisticated scam offering fixed term deposits, using the name of Bank of China (New Zealand) Limited. The scammers have developed fake email domain name (@boc-capital.com), name (for example, Harry Stevens), phone number (09 951 9530), and fake term deposit brochures.

Before you invest, please be diligent and act with caution when participating in investment offers. Do not reply to unsolicited emails or phone calls and always check that you’re applying through verified Bank of China (New Zealand) Limited channels before transferring any money. If you are unsure, hang up and contact Bank of China (New Zealand) Limited using our verified channels.

Bank of China (New Zealand) Limited will not make unsolicited investment offers, such as term deposit offers to you through phone call or email. (although we may call or email you if you have a bank account with us).

How to identify a Scam and what you need to do if you suspect one?

If you receive an email which doesn’t end in bankofchina.com or bank-of-china.com then it is not from Bank of China (New Zealand) Limited. The official website of Bank of China (New Zealand) Limited is https://www.bankofchina.com/nz/en/ Any other website is not Bank of China (New Zealand) Limited’s official website.

If you suspect you have been targeted by an investment scam or detect any suspicious online behaviour regarding any Bank of China (New Zealand) Limited products, please email the legal team immediately at legal.nz@bankofchina.com. We will investigate, report and take necessary actions.
