2024-06-17
Dear Customers,
Recently, some criminals have used technical means to display the customer service number of Bank of China (New Zealand) Limited (+64 9 980 9000), pretending to be bank staff to trick people into providing personal information and committing fraud.
Here are some tips to protect yourself from fraud:
- Be Cautious with caller ID: If you receive a suspicious phone call showing the BOCNZ's customer service number, remember that caller ID can be faked. Do not provide personal information or transfer money. Stop communicating with the suspect immediately.
- Official use of customer service number: BOCNZ’s customer service number is for public consultation only and does not handle any business transactions. We will not contact customers to request personal information through the customer service number, nor will we notify parties of suspected violations and crimes through this channel.
- Notify relevant parties: If your information is leaked, inform relatives and friends to prevent fraud. If you suffer financial loss, preserve evidence and report to the police. Contact your bank immediately to take necessary actions to prevent any further financial loss.
- Verify Suspicious Activity: Use the bank’s published channels or email (legal.nz@bankofchina.com) to report suspicious behaviour related to the bank’s services or products. We will investigate the incident you report and provide advice accordingly
- Report the Scams: You can call the police on 105 or report the scam to Financial Markets Authority by emailing questions@fma.govt.nz. For more information, visit the FMA website at http://www.fma.govt.nz/scams/report-a-scam/.
Stay vigilant and take steps to protect yourself from potential fraud.
