To celebrate Chinese New Year, Bank of China London Branch sponsored Chinese New Year Celebration and a special show named "Cultures of China, Festival of Spring" at Trafalgar Square, London, being one of the largest celebration events in Europe, and receiving a wide acclaim from the local overseas Chinese.
On the morning of February 6 (London Time), tourists from around the world and overseas Chinese in UK gathered at Trafalgar Square in downtown London to celebrate Chinese New Year - Year of the Rabbit. London Mayor Boris Johnson offered his congratulations through the big screen installed at the square and said that, the annual celebration at Trafalgar Square was one of the most colorful and attractive events in London, injecting vigor and vitality into the city and demonstrating the unique culture of China.
Present at the celebration included Wu Guoqiang, Chairman of the London Chinatown Chinese Association (the organizer), Richard Barnes, Deputy Mayor of London, Li Haifeng, Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, and Liu Xiaoming, Chinese ambassador to UK. The PLA Troupe and the Dance Drama Troupe of Gansu Province presented wonderful music and dance performances for the audiences. It is reported that the entire event lasted nearly six hours, with a total of about 500,000 participants.
Since 2002, Bank of China London Branch has been sponsored for the annual celebration of Chinese New Year at Trafalgar Square, making its own contributions to promoting Chinese culture.
