On 2 September 2024, Mr Haijiao Ge, Chairman of Bank of China Group, met with Dame Caroline Wilson DCMG, British Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China. The meeting took place at the Bank of China Head Office in Beijing. They had an in-depth discussion on ways to further promote economic and trade exchanges between China and the United Kingdom and to strengthen cooperation between the two sides.
Chairman Ge welcomed Ambassador Caroline Wilson and her delegation, thanked the British Embassy for its long-standing support, and introduced Bank of China's unique globalised strength, its development history in the UK, and the highlights of its sustainable development. He said that Bank of China would continue to implement the important consensus of the leaders of the two countries, focusing on fostering new momentum in bilateral economic and trade exchanges, growing London’s offshore RMB market, and strengthening cooperation in green finance. The Bank aims to deepen positive interactions and promote complementarity with all sectors in the UK, to push Sino-British economic, trade, and financial cooperation to a new level and to bear new fruits.
Ambassador Wilson stated that the British government would continue to pay attention to and support the sustained development of Bank of China's institutions in the UK. She expressed hope that both sides would engage in in-depth exchanges across various fields, work together to deepen economic, trade, and financial cooperation, and contribute further to the development of a stable and mutually beneficial relationship between China and the UK.
