Bank of China Chairman Haijiao Ge Holds Talks with Sam Woods, Deputy Governor of the Bank of England and Chief Executive Officer of the Prudential Regulation Authority

On 9 September 2024, Mr Haijiao Ge, Chairman of Bank of China Group, held talks with Sam Woods, Deputy Governor of the Bank of England (BoE) and Chief Executive Officer of the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA), in London, UK, accompanied by General Manager of BOC London Branch Mr Wenjian Fang.

Chairman Ge thanked the Bank of England and the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) for their long-standing guidance and assistance, and briefed him on the recent performance of Bank of China and the operation of its institutions in the UK. He said that London is the starting point of Bank of China's journey to the international market and the hub of the global financial services network. Since the opening of its London Agency in 1929, Bank of China has been sticking to deeply cultivating its local presence, continuously enhancing its operation and management capabilities, and actively promoting bilateral economic, trade and financial cooperation. Bank of China will unswervingly promote globalisation, continue to improve its compliance and customer service quality in the UK, and provide UK and international customers integrated financial services dubbed "Access to the Bank’s Global Expertise at Any Point of Contact". We hope to work with the Bank of England and the Prudential Regulation Authority to deepen co-operation in key areas such as green finance, cross-border finance and supply chain finance, and to jointly build bridges for trade and commerce, cooperation, and friendship between China and the UK, so as to contribute more to the building of a stable and mutually beneficial relationship between China and the UK.

Mr Woods welcomed Chairman Ge and his delegation, highly praising Bank of China's achievements in its UK operations. He noted that in recent years, the BoE and the PRA have placed great emphasis on the Chinese market and expressed hope of further strengthening communication and collaboration with Bank of China across various fields to inject new momentum into China-UK economic and financial cooperation.
