Bank of China Chairman Haijiao Ge Holds Talks with UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves


 

On 10 September 2024, Mr Haijiao Ge, Chairman of Bank of China Group, holds talks with UK Chancellor of the Exchequer the Rt Hon Rachel Reeves in London, with Chinese Ambassador to the UK H.E. Zeguang Zheng, General Manager of Bank of China London Branch Mr Wenjian Fang also in attendance.

Chairman Ge thanked the UK Treasury for its long-standing trust and support. He stated that Bank of China is both a witness and a beneficiary of China-UK financial exchanges, as well as an active participant in and promoter of the development of bilateral relations. As the longest-serving Chinese bank in the UK, Bank of China is committed to serving as a bridge to deepen China-UK economic and trade exchanges and cultural interactions. In the future, Bank of China will continue to strengthen communication and coordination with the UK Treasury, effectively support Chinese enterprises “Going Global” and British enterprises developing in China, while effectively promoting cooperation in emerging industries and new fields. The Group will also actively advance the use of the Renminbi in international trade and investment, assisting the City of London in becoming a global offshore Renminbi centre. Furthermore, it will steadfastly uphold the concept of green development, striving to become the preferred Chinese bank for China-UK green finance cooperation, injecting more financial momentum into the stable and long-term development of China-UK relations.

Reeves highly praised Bank of China for its positive contribution to promoting the development of Sino-British relations and deepening cooperation between the two countries. She expressed hope that Bank of China would fully leverage its unique strengths, build more communication bridges, create more highlights of cooperation, and actively participate in and promote mutually beneficial cooperation and friendly exchanges between China and the UK.
