Bank of China Chairman Haijiao Ge Holds talks with Bank of England Governor Mr. Andrew Bailey and UK Financial Conduct Authority CEO Mr. Nikhil Rathi

On January 12, Bank of China Group Chairman Mr. Haijiao Ge held talks with Mr. Andrew Bailey, Governor of Bank of England (BoE), and Mr. Nikhil Rathi, CEO of the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) at the Bank of China Group’s Head Office in Beijing. The President of the Group Mr. Hui Zhang also attended the event.

Chairman Ge welcomed Mr. Bailey and Mr. Rathi and expressed gratitude for the guidance and support provided by the BoE and FCA for Bank of China’s development in the UK. He emphasised that the resumption of the China-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue presents new opportunities for bilateral cooperation. Bank of China will seize these opportunities to focus on areas such as cross-border financial services, RMB business, capital market connectivity, the digital economy, green finance, technology finance, and pension finance. These efforts aim to foster win-win collaboration between the two nations and deliver more practical outcomes in various fields of China-UK cooperation.

Mr. Bailey and Mr. Rathi commended Bank of China’s compliant and stable operations in the UK and praised its active role in serving local businesses, enhancing public well-being, and promoting pragmatic cooperation between China and the UK. They affirmed that both BoE and the FCA highly value collaboration with China and are committed to supporting the operations of Chinese financial institutions, including Bank of China, in the UK. This support aims to jointly uphold the stability of the UK’s financial and economic systems and advance the healthy development of China-UK bilateral trade and economic relations.

On the same day, President Zhang and Mr. Rathi witnessed Bank of China join the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) as the first Chinese financial institution. TNFD is a global initiative aimed at developing a framework for nature-related financial disclosures to help businesses and financial institutions better identify and manage relevant risks and opportunities. London Branch has closely collaborated with TNFD to facilitate this joining and signing ceremony.
