Following the issuance of redeemable notes bearing the portrait of Li Hongzhang in 1912, Bank of China issued redeemable notes bearing the portrait of Emperor Huang Di in one yuan, five yuan and ten yuan printed by American Bank Note Company for nationwide circulation.
The redeemable notes bearing the portrait of Emperor Huang Di were much alike with those with Li Hongzhang. Except for adjustments in some details, the two sets shared the same patterns of such scenes as the train and village on the front and the landscape of river and trees on the back of the one-yuan notes, the octagonal pavilion with double-hipped roof on the front of the 5-yuan notes, the quadrangle tablet pavilion on the front and Wengcheng (a small town outside the city gate) at Zhengyang Gate of Beijing on the back of the 10-yuan notes as well as the layout. However, the Emperor Huang Di notes were affixed with far more place names than the Li Hongzhang notes.
