On December 16, 2004, the China Environmental Protection Foundation, Bank of China and the Phoenix Chinese Channel jointly held a press conference to initiate the "Beijing-Hong Kong 'China Environmental Award ? Green Xin Yi Tong' Environmental Protection Trip" at King Wing Hot Spring International Hotel in Beijing.
"Beijing-Hong Kong 'China Environmental Award ? Green Xin Yi Tong' Environmental Protection Trip" is a key national campaign co-sponsored by China Environmental Protection Foundation, Bank of China and the Phoenix Chinese Channel, with the approval of the State Environmental Protection Administration and Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council. The campaign is aimed to publicize the "China Environmental Award" and "Green Xin Yi Tong", promote the whole nation's awareness of environmental protection, enhance public participation and support, as well as disseminate the state policies on population, environment and resources in all walks of life, especially among the grassroots and the masses. It has also provided a donation channel for those who are concerned about the environment and public welfare.
A fleet of 25 sports cars, drivers comprised of enthusiastic volunteers, publicity messengers and journalists, will set out from Beijing on January 9, 2005 and head for Hong Kong, passing Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, and Guangdong. Thence, environmental protection volunteers from Hong Kong will drive back and arrive in Beijing on January 22. The whole campaign lasts 14 days. The China Environmental Protection Foundation has invited Liu Xiang, an Olympic champion, Wang Yan, Sina CEO and Sally Wu, a hostess of Phoenix TV to be the "publicity ambassadors". Favored by the general public for their good public images, these heavyweights are bound to show their enthusiasm and support for public welfare.
For a long time, Bank of China has been actively supporting China's environmental protection cause. On November 23, 2003, Bank of China and the China Environmental Protection Foundation formally signed the "Green Xin Yi Tong" Cooperation Agreement on Donation of Savings Interest in Beijing, which marked the beginning of cooperation on environmental protection deposits between a commercial bank and an environmental protection community. With the "Green Xin Yi Tong" product, customers of Bank of China may donate the interest on demand deposit to the Foundation, as an effort to improve our living environment.
The "Green Xin Yi Tong" is the first environment-friendly financial product for public welfare in China. The product has offered a smooth channel for those who are concerned about the environment and enthusiastic about public welfare to express their love and donate funds.
