On May 16, Wang Zhaowen, spokesman of Bank of China, declared that Bank of China's total donation increased from RMB 10 million on the evening of May 12 to RMB 64 million as of the evening of May 15.
Wang said that Sichuan earthquake was a common concern of the 260,000 domestic and overseas employees of Bank of China. Besides the unremitting efforts made by Sichuan Branch for the disaster relief, over 10,000 branches and institutions at home and abroad under the Bank have actively launched various campaigns, with the donation amount constantly growing.
In the total donation of RMB 64 million, RMB 20 million in cash and relief supplies of RMB 3 million were contributed by Bank of China head office. Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited and its subsidiaries, Nanyang Commercial Bank and Chiyu Banking Corporation Limited, accounted for HKD 10 million. Funds from the staff had exceeded RMB 31 million as of the evening of May 15.
The donation campaigns on behalf of the individual or the Bank are still under way at Bank of China's branches and institutions at home and abroad.
Wang has announced Bank of China's decision that funds from the staff will be mainly used for school construction in earthquake-stricken areas.
