On November 1, Bank of China Youth League Committee organized a thrift-themed event entitled "Showing the Virtue of Thrift through Every Action". The event aims to organize the Youth League members to implement the directives from the Fifth Plenary of the Sixth CPC Central Committee, and to understand the essence of economical and social development goals of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan.
Bank of China has always paid great attention to increasing young employees' thrift consciousness and sense of responsibility. Youth League Committee of the head office has issued a proposal, Showing the Virtue of Thrift through Every Action, to help employees increase consciousness of thrift anytime and anywhere and achieve "Five EVERYs", namely, to save every KWH of power, every drop of water, every piece of paper, every grain of rice and every possible bit of resource. The proposal has met active response across the Bank, and Xiao Gang, the CPC Party Committee Secretary and Chairman of the Bank, Li Lihui, the CPC Party Committee Deputy Secretary and President of the Bank, and other directors as well as general managers of all departments of the head office have taken the lead in signing the proposal concerning the obligation of being thrifty. Young employees have made beautiful and cute cartoon tips on "how to save power and water" and other fundamental of inquiry and posted them in dining rooms, washrooms, apparatus rooms and other conspicuous places in the office building so as to remind people of being thrifty. They have also sent the Rules on Being Thrifty through the internal website of Bank of China, NOTES mail box and so on to their colleagues. In so doing, they aim to enrich people's knowledge of how to be thrifty, and to infiltrate the concept of thrift into every part of their work and their life.
The mansion of Bank of China Head Office, a modern and multi-functional office building designed by well-known architect Ieoh Ming Pei and put to use in 2001, has a large daily consumption of energy and resources. Youth League members of the head office has actively coordinated with the General Affairs Department and Sun Chung Property Management (China) Co., Ltd., raised reasonable proposals on ventilation, elevating, water, lighting and so on, and jointly formulated such thrift-oriented measures as changing the operation duration of appliances, transforming the equipment structure, conducting regular examination on energy consumption and so on. Though the office area has been increased by 3,000 square meters this year, the mansion has seen a reduction of power consumption from previous year by 1,531,600 KWH, amounting to RMB 1,171,200.
The event has achieved an initial success by making employees more proactive and creative in fulfilling their obligations of being thrifty. So far, the concept of "Thrift Is Love, Thrift Is Efficiency" has been deeply rooted in the minds of young employees of Bank of China and turned into action.
