In accordance with Administrative Regulation No. 9/2019, Bank of China issued the commemorative banknotes with face value of MOP20 to celebrate the important occasion of the 20th anniversary of Macau's return to the motherland.

The dominating colour of the design of the banknote is blue violet, with the obverse of the banknote featuring the “lotus” sculpture which symbolizes Macau's eternal prosperity. The building of the banknote issuing bank that stands next to the sculpture, reflects that the banknote issuing bank and Macau will grow together, supports the healthy economic development for Macau.

With the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge being featured on the reverse of the banknote, it symbolizes the friendly communication between Macau and mainland China on the economy culture and various areas.
