The Joyous BOC Charity Walk 2013

The Joyous BOC Charity Walk 2013 (“The Charity Walk”) was held on September 1, 2013. Over four thousand participants started separately from either the Macau island or Taipa walking through the Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge to arouse the awareness of the community to care for the weakness and support social welfare activities. During the day, Bank of China Macau Branch made donations to 15 social welfare organizations.

At 8 o’clock in the morning, kick-off ceremonies was held at the starting points at both ends of the bridge. The kick-off ceremony in Macau was hosted by Mr. Chou Hong, Deputy Director General of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government, Mr. Vong Iao-Lek, Acting Chairman of the Administration Committee of the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, Mr. Iong Kong-Io, Director of Social Welfare Bureau, Mr. Lau Cho-Un, Head of Departamento de Administracao de Instalacoes Desportivas of Macau Sport Development Board, Mr. Ma Iao-Lai, President of The Macao Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Io Hong-Meng, Chiarman of the Executive Committee of Uniao Geral Das Associacoes dos Moradores de Macau, Ms. Lam Un-Mui, Chairwoman of the Executive Committee of The Women's General Association of Macau, Mr. Lai Chan-Keong, Chairman of the Association of Returned Overseas Chinese Macau, Mr. Ma Iao-Hang, Vice President of Kiang Wu Charitable Association, Mr. Cheang Chi-Keong, Consultant of Bank of China Macau Branch and Member of the Executive Council of Macau, Mr. Ho Ion-Sang, Director (Customer Relationship) of Bank of China Macau Branch and Member of the Legislative Council of Macau and Mr. Ye Yixin, General Manage of Bank of China Macau Branch. The kick-off ceremony in Taipa was hosted by other higher officials of the bank. After the kick-offs, participants from 22 participating entities and about 4000 staff members of the bank and their families started walking separately from both ends of the Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge and took the opportunity to appreciate the beautiful scenery on both sides of the bridge. While this Charity Walk has become one of the social welfare and branding activities of the bank, the fact that the event this year has attracted 1000 more participants than the previous year reflected the Macau residents’ dedication to charitable work.

Mr. Ye Yixin said in his speech that through organizing social welfare activities and raising funds for charity, and working closely together with all participants, we have shared our love and care to the needy. Furthermore, we encouraged our staff members to participate in the community and be a responsible citizen. Showing his appreciation for all participants, Mr. Ho Ion Sang, Director of Bank of China Macau Branch and member of the Legislative Council of Macau said that “unity is power”. All of us should join together to serve the community, listen to the people, participate in charitable activities and help the poor and needy less fortunate

During the event, a donation ceremony was held. Bank of China Macau Branch donated charity funds collected from all participants, including the MOP200,000 entry fee collected, to 15 local venerable entities and charitable organizations giving support to this event. Through donation to these organizations, Bank of China wished to help building a harmonious community.

Furthermore, to help the general public to know more about the corporate culture and the services provided by the bank, several back offices located in various floors of Banking of China were opened for the visiting public, including the Business Center located at 1/F, Hall of History at 3/F, staff canteen at 4/F, Private Banking Department at 11/F and the multi-purpose function room at 33/F.

The Joyous BOC Charity Walk 2013 was co-organized by the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, The Macao Chamber of Commerce, Uniao Geral Das Associacoes dos Moradores de Macau, The Women's General Association of Macau, the Association of Returned Overseas Chinese Macau, Tai Fung Bank Limited, China Taiping Insurance (Macau) Company Limited, China Life Insurance (Overseas) Company Limited, Nam Tung (Macao) Investment Limited and The Home of Bank of China which was organized by the retired staff members of Bank of China; and supported by Kiang Wu Hospital Charitable Association, Macau Tung Sin Tong Charitable Society, Macao Holy House of Mercy, Obra das Maes, The Macau Association of Parents of the Mentally Handicapped, The Macau Association for the Mentally Handicapped, Macau Association of Support for the Diabled, Macau Deaf Association, Meng Tak Charity Association, Fuhong Society of Macau, Sheun Tao Church Macau Charity Association, Care Action Macao,
