Jointly organized by Bank of China Macau Branch ("BOC"), The Chinese Educators' Association of Macau, The Association of Catholic Schools in Macau, and The Federation of Macau-China Sports General Associations, the Joyous Run - BOC Climbing Stairs for Charity 2013 has been held on October 6, 2013 successful. During the event, BOC donated over MOP10 million to 64 educational and social welfare organization in an effort to support the better development of local education, sporting and social welfare organizations. The event was co-organized by Fundo De Desenvolvimento Desportivo, Instituto Para Os Assuntos Civicos e Municipals and Associacao de Atletismo de Macau-China, and supported by 7 higher education institutions, 50 high schools and primary schools and some social service organizations.

This was the 3rd consecutive year BOC has organizad this Joyous Run charity program. With the strong support from various organizations, the feedback from the general public and the number of participants has been overwhelming. At 8 o'clock in the morning, the kick-of ceremony was held jointly by Ms. Qiu Hong, Deputy Director General of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government, Mr. Choi Lai-Hang, Director-General of Macao Customs Service, Ms. Cheung So-Mui, Chief of Office of Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Ms. Leong Lai, Director of Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Mr. Jose Tavares, Acting President of Macao Sport Development Board, Mr. Chan Ka-Hou, Functional Head of Tertiary Education Services Office, Mr. Ma Iao-Hang, President of Federation of Macau China Sports General Associations, Mr. Ye Yixin, General Manage of Bank of China Macau Branch, Mr. Cheang Chi-Keong, Consultant of Bank of China Macau Branch and Member of the Executive Council of Macau and Mr. Ho Ion-Sang, Director (Customer Relationship) of Bank of China Macau Branch and Member of the Legislative Council of Macau.

As soon as Mr. Ma Iao-Hang fired the starting gun, 600 participants started running along the beautiful Nam Van Lake heading the way back to Bank of China Building, aiming to be the first one to run up the 735 steps leading to the finishing line located at the multifunction room, 33/F of the building. Through sporting activities, all athletes intended to draw the attention of the general public to public welfare.


Adhering to the operating principal of "Rooted in Macau, Steadfast in Serving", BOC not only committed to provide quality financial services and products but also devoted to fulfill our corporate social responsibility by putting more effort in charitable activities. During the Joyous Run, BOC made charitable donations to educational institutions including higher education institutes, sporting organizations and social services organizations. Starting this year, to further extend the support for the fundamental education sector, donations have been made to a larger number of education institutes including 50 primary and high schools in the form of scholarships - BOC Scholarship, in an effort to encourage the younger students to study hard and to prepare these young people to face the challenge of becoming the professionals which is needed for the better development of Macau in the future.
The donation ceremony was held after the charity run. Entities receiving donation funds were Chinese Educators' Association of Macau, Association of Catholic Schools in Macau, Macao Academy Education Fund Society, University of Macau, Macau University of Science and Technology, City University of Macau, Macau Polytechnic Institute, Institute of Tourism Studies, Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau, Macau Institute of Management, Federation of Macau-China Sports General Associations, Workers' Clinic of Macau General Association of Workers' Union, Macao Daily News Readers Public Welfare Foundation, Scout Association of Macau and 50 primary and high schools in Macau, a total of 64 educational and social welfare organizations. Including the entry fee paid by the participants, a total of over MOP10 million has been donated. Representatives of all entities took a group picture together after receiving the charity fund checks.
A few minutes after the check presentation ceremony, the prize giving ceremony of the Joyous Run started. Based on their age and sex, the participants were divided into 12 competing groups. The first 5 winners of each group were rewarded a prize and all finishers a BOC Year of the Snake e-Wallet Card and Commemorative Stamp Set to commemorate this charity event.
