Macau Branch has been appointed the clearing bank of UnionPay QuickPass Card for SAR government

2014-02-26

On February 14, 2014 the Financial Services Bureau (“DSF”) signed a cooperation agreement with Bank of China Macau Branch (“BOC”) to formally appoint BOC as the service provider of the clearing service for UnionPay QuickPass Card with which the general public can pay taxes and fees in smaller amount and minimize the need for small change. In a long run, it will help foster the use of electronic money in Macau.

Starting from February 17, 2014, UnionPay QuickPass e-Wallet cards will be accepted for payments of taxes and fees in smaller amount at the Tax Collection Units of DSF at the Finance Building, Coercive Collection Bureau, Integrated Services Center and Taipa Service Centre, and at the Identification Bureau (China Plaza), in addition to the other payment options currently allowed. In the future, fees and payments for the renewal of identification cards, the application for SAR passports and the issuance of Certificate of No-criminal Record can be paid through the self-service kiosks provided by the Identification Bureau at China Plaza with any UnionPay QuickPass card. This new payment option will gradually be extended for use in other government departments and public entities.

BOC has so far issued over 200,000 UnionPay QuickPass e-Wallet cards which, we believe, will become more and more popular in the near future. Currently UnionPay QuickPass cards have been widely accepted by many supermarkets and retail shops in Macau. Since the card is designed specially for use in Macau, Hong Kong and the Mainland, it surely will be a brand new payment option for the general public.
