Bank of China set-up the BOC Scholarships for Outstanding Athletes in Macau

On June 30, 2014, the Sports and Olympic Committee of Macau, China (“SOCMC”) has held the Award Giving Ceremony of the 2013-2014 BOC Scholarship for Outstanding Athletes in Macau (“The Scholarships”) at the Macau Tower Convention & Entertainment Centre. Scholarships have been awarded to 152 outstanding athletes. Distinguished guests in attendance and giving the awards individually to the outstanding athletes included Mr. Ho Hau-Wah, Vice Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Honorary President of SOCMC, Mr. Jose Tavares, Director of Macau Sport Development Board, Mr. Ma Iao-Hang, President of General Assembly of SOCMC, and Mr. Ip Sio-Kai, General Manager and Deputy General Manager of Bank of China Macau Branch.

Mr. Ma Iao-Hang presented a souvenir to Mr. Ye Yixin at the ceremony to thank Bank of China for setting up the Scholarships and wished to continue the cooperation with the SAR government and Bank of China in the future in order to foster and promote the spirit and the development of the Olympic Games, and to create a better sports environment for athletes in Macau.

Persisting in the operating principle of “Rooted in Macau and steadfast in serving” and the operating concept of “achieving mutual benefit of our business and the society”, Bank of China Macau Branch has organized 3 branded charity events – “The Charity Run”, “The Charity Walk” and “Golfing for Charity” for 3 consecutive years to foster the development of local educational, sporting, charitable, health care and cultural programs. The Scholarships were set up in respond to the long term mechanism to cultivate local talent of the SAR government, aiming to award those outstanding individual athletes or teams who have been winners of the first 3 places in the 16 sports games, including the World or Asian Games, the World or Asian Youth Games, the Asian Youth Athletic Championships, the East Asian Games and the Lusophony Games, and the Paralympic Games and non-Paralympic Games series.
