Almost 60 employees of the Bank joined this year’s 4km Standard Chartered Great City Race! It was a great result after a 2-year break during the pandemic and extending our previous 50 participant record in 2019. It was the first larger social teambuilding event for the Bank since the pandemic.

The event took place in the evening of Tuesday 6th September, after it had to be rescheduled last minute from the UK’s hottest day in record on 19th July. Equipped with a BOC running vest, the race number and a bottle of water, the team was sent off in the Bank by EMC member Mr Tim Skeet. He shared some motivational words and encouraged all staff to take ownership and organise more social activities in the Bank, supported by the new Social Committee recently approved.

The 4km race course (reduced from 5km from the original layout) started at the HAC Grounds near Moorgate and then led through the City of London, also running past the Bank’s 1 Lothbury building. Overall 59 BOC runners managed to finish the 4km with an average 24 minutes, ranging from as quick as 16 minutes to 44 minutes. Kudos to Francesco D’Amico from London Training Centre for finishing first amongst the BOC runners at 16:00 and great effort from all participants that received a medal & finisher Tshirt at the finish line.

After the decent turnout at the race, the BOC team also made a strong impression at the after-run drinks organised at ‘Where’s Fred’ close to the office where the team continued the teambuilding with some well-deserved drinks & nibbles provided by the Bank. Overall a great event, thanks to EO & the Bank for the logistical & financial support and everyone involved! Looking forward to next year’s race!
