On December 19, 2005, Wang Lijun, General Manager of Seoul Branch of Bank of China, won the President’s Award of the Korean Government in the commending conference for introducing foreign investment, according to Bank of China. Lee Hee-Beom, Minister of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy of Korea, on behalf of President Roh Moo-Hyun, awarded Wang Lijun the medal and certificate. About 1500 people, including Minister of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy of Korea, Chairman of the Korea Foreign Investment Association, some resident foreign diplomatic officials in Korea, Korean local government officials and personalities from foreign enterprises and financial services, attended the commending conference held in Seoul Hilton Hotel.
With the development of China-Korea economic cooperation and exchanges in recent years, Bank of China has made great efforts in exploring the Korean market. Under the guidance and with the support of the Head Office, Seoul Branch of Bank of China established cooperative relationship with such Korean multinational corporations as Hyundai Motor, Samsung Electronics and Pohang Iron & Steel. Besides, as a bridge in China-Korea financial cooperation, Seoul Branch has started overall cooperation with about 10 Korean banks, providing financial services to people engaged in business both in China and in Korea. Such services of Bank of China as Wage Remittance, Korean Currency Exchange，Overseas Students Remittance and Opening a account in China are very popular with Chinese and Korean clients. In 2002, the Korean Government awarded Seoul Branch of Bank of China the Award for Outstanding Enterprises in Korea-China Economic cooperation. In August, 2003, Wang Lijun took the position of General Manager of Seoul Branch of Bank of China. He has made great efforts in extending the business scope, strengthening internal control and improving the performance, which has well received wide recognition.
It is known that the President’s Award is the top one prize of the Korean Government for individuals who have made contributions to social development of Korea., Wang Lijun is the only Chinese that has been awarded so far, which is an honor of Bank of China and affirms the contributions of Bank of China to China-Korea economic exchanges as well.
