On February 14, Wang Zhaowen, the spokesman of Bank of China (BOC), presented to the media that as a banking partner of 2008 Beijing Olympics, BOC designated a group of professionals with rich business experiences and fluent languages to accompany the Chinese Delegation for Turin Winter Olympics and provide all-round financial services to the delegation as well as the athletes and audiences from all around the world.
Wang Zhaowen said that, as the only banking partner of Beijing Olympics, BOC took this as a greatopportunity for practice. Before departure for Italy, the Bank Card Center of BOC, with the cooperation of General Administration of Sport and Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) provided cards to the delegation members. According to the characteristics of the economic region of Italy, BOC provided the members with Great Wall International VISA Euro Card to assure that the delegation members would not suffer the loss of double exchange rates for settlement of transactions abroad. Moreover, BOC also provided the BOC VISA Olympics Card characterized by “one card for two currencies and global use”, which was compatible with the Euro Card and provided safe, convenient, and swift bank card payment services to the delegation members.
The considerate financial services of BOC accompanied the Olympic players all the time. In the period of winter Olympic Games, the domestic and overseas institutions of BOC jointly established an on-site financial service team to provide such services as on-site inquiry, loss reporting, complaint, and urgent card reissuing. At the same time, the Beijing Card Center of BOC set up the BOC Card Long-Distance Emergency Service Team, with team members 24-hours available by phone for assistance to ensure the satisfaction of the financial service demands of the delegation.
Since BOC became the sole banking partner of Beijing Olympic Games, it has been dedicated to financial products innovation and promotion, Olympic market development and operation, and on-site services preparation for Olympic Games to prepare for the coming 2008 Olympic Games. To improve the service level and capacity, BOC has sent a special team to Turin to serve on site and also selected a number of elites for innovations of Olympic financial products since the spring of 2006. By the Eve of the Spring Festival 2006, three new financial products had been created. The first product was “Bullion for 2008 Gold Medal”. This was the first personal foreign exchange wealth management product of BOC related to the Olympic Games and provided the investors with chances to participate in the Olympic Twin-city Visit and the admission ticket of 2008 Olympic Games. The second product was Yearly Formal Deposit Receipt. The customers could select the digits related to 2008 based on their preferences and express their expectation and wishes for the 2008 Olympic Games. The third product was sales of the second team of Beijing Olympics Bullion. All the above mentioned products along with Visa Olympic Credit Card shall be available in the market before the New Spring of 2006 and become the valuable Olympic products for all Chinese people.
Wang Zhaowen expressed that this Turin Winter Olympics was the biggest Olympic Games before Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and also the best opportunity for BOC to practice in providing special financial services. In this way, BOC would accumulate rich experiences and make up for shortcomings in the service level. He hoped that Chinese players would strive for good performances in the Turin Winter Olympics. He also emphasized that as the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games was coming, BOC would do well in Olympic marketing and all other preparations to ensure satisfactory financial services in Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
