The Olympic torch relay began its final leg in Beijing from the landmark Forbidden City On August 6 Wednesday morning. Xiao Gang, BOC Chairman, Zhao Shigang, Global Head of Corporate Banking Business and Dong Jianyue, President of Beijing Branch, joined the relay at Tian'anmen Square and passed the sacred flame in vigorous strides, which best illustrates the spirit “Light up the dreams and pass on the excellence” on behalf of BOC staff.
At 6 o’clock, 150 staff from the Head Office and Beijing Branch assembled at the Northeast corner of Tian’anmen Square, waiting for the arrival of the three torchbearers. When the torchbearer drop-off vehicle arrived there at 8:56 a.m., the staff who had waited for hours got quite excited and began cheering slogans like “century-old BOC celebrates century-old Olympics”, “Go! Chairman Xiao” and “Go! President Zhao”. On hearing the cheering, the two bearers wave to the audience and took pictures with them. Soon the flame arrived and lit the torch held by Chairman Xiao. As the 80th bearer, he waved to the hilarious audience and ran forward holding high the torch.

Chairman Xiao and President Zhao met at the 81st hand-over place and clapped each other’s hand. Then President Zhao began his journey with the sacred flame. The cheering squad at roadside, thought tied and sweaty, was deeply involved in the jubilant atmosphere and went on cheering for the torch bearer with great enthusiasm.
