At 9 a.m. on April 22, “Olympics come to Beijing--BOC Long Walk with Beijing Residents” took place in National Olympic Sports Center to embrace the coming Beijing Olympics. The heads of BOCOG, Beijing Sports Bureau and BOC Head Office, as well as Olympic Champions Yang Yang and Wang Liping attended the event. Staff representatives from the Head Office and Beijing Branch, hundreds of Beijing residents and foreign students, representatives of BOC customers and journalists of major Beijing media also participated in the event.

BOC has been engaging in supporting the national sports for many years and tried its best for the promotion of Olympic developments in China since becoming the banking partner of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The bank leverages on the Games as a good opportunity to improve its banking services, cultivate distinctive competitiveness and uplift service image. The Long Walk Event aims to advocate popular fitness exercises and spread knowledge of Olympics.

During the Long Walk, the participants read introductions on the billboards about the past Olympic host cities and Olympic celebrities, and enjoyed featured performances such as street dance, Latin dance and Korean folk dance. Meanwhile, they also engaged in some interesting themed games. These activities left the participants a deep impression about the Olympic knowledge and gave them a lot of fun.
During one interesting game of “three-persons-in-one-shoe”, a Li family from Xicheng District won the championship. When the daughter received the prize—an Olympic souvenir medal from the host, the 7-year old girl expressed her determination to contribute to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
The signature scroll “Cheer for the Olympics” became one of the most popular part of the event. Almost everyone present at the event left their names on it, hoping to contribute to the Beijing Olympics.
This Olympic themed event with a large-scale participation of Beijing dwellers, organized by BOC for the first time in Beijing, fully aroused the enthusiasm of popular fitness exercises and promoted the Olympic spirit, and achieved good social effects. It is said that 2006 is the crucial year for BOC in Olympic marketing. The four areas of tasks including the Olympic publicity and brand management, on-site banking services and preparation, Olympic product promotion and Olympic marketing, will be implemented gradually and effectively. As BOC’s Olympic Image Ambassador, Yang Yang will also be engaged in promoting BOC’s new Olympic image by participating in various kinds of public activities and sharing the Olympic spirits with the public.
