Mr. Zhang Wannian, a retiree of BOC Fuxin Branch in Liaoning Province, on a solo bicycle touring around China to promote Olympic spirit, arrives in Hefei, capital of Anhui province, at 3 p.m. on June 1, after an arduous journey through Bozhou, Fuyang and Liuan in the province. At the welcome ceremony, Mr. Zhang received a warm welcome from Mr. Shen Xiaowu, general manager, Mr. Li Wenqing, secretary of party discipline committee and staffs of BOC Anhui Branch.
Mr. Zhang Wannian’s solo bicycle tour has drawn the local media’s enormous attention. Anhui TV and Hefei TV, as well as some newspaper, Xinan Evenning, Hefei Evening and Anhui Business, all carried spot report.
At the symposium held by BOC Anhui Branch, Mr. Shen Xiaowu highly praised the “Olympic Knight” for his outstanding and respectable performance in promoting Bank of China and Olympic spirit, and attached the bank seal and a motto “Success Always with You” to Mr. Zhang’s specific propaganda banner willingly. Meanwhile, Mr. Zhang Wannian introduced some experiences and feelings during his bicycle tour and answered the media reporters’ questions. After the symposium, Mr. Shen Xiaowu accepted Hefei TV’s interview over Mr. Zhang’s Olympic bicycle tour and BOC’s Olympic work.
As a retired staff of BOC, Mr. Zhang Wannian has always been concerned about Bank of China and Olympic Games. He has visited 332 branches of BOC covering a distance of 42000 kilometers around China, promoting Olympic spirit, on his bicycle in the latest 4 years since Beijing’s successful bid for 2008 Olympic Games. Overcoming many dangers and difficulties in the 4 years, with a strong determination and enthusiasm of Olympics, Mr. Zhang’s track spread in 19 provinces, cities and autonomous regions, and the rides farthest reached Ala Mountain Pass in Xinjiang province, highest to the Tanggula Mountain Pass with altitudes averaging over 5000 meters. In the schedule of the “Olympic Knight”, he will complete the rides throughout China before 2008 Olympic Games to support the success of the pageant. Mr. Zhang Wannian, with his own action, demonstrates BOC staffs’ great support for the coming Olympic Games, and achieves the perfect combination of the spirit of Bank of China and Olympics.
