Wealth Management Products

Product Overview

Wealth Management Products (WMPs) are non-principal-guaranteed asset management products issued by wealth management companies. Returns are paid to investors based on agreed terms and investment performance; these products do not guarantee the repayment of principal or a specific level of return. WMPs can be categorized as follows:

  • By currency: They can be denominated in renminbi, US dollars, Hong Kkong dollars, euros, British pounds, and other currencies, catering to clients' multi-currency investment needs.
  • By investment asset type: These include cash management, fixed-income, equity, commodity and derivatives, and hybrid products.
  • By negotiability of shares during the product term: WMPs are classified into open-end and closed-end types. Open-ended products are further categorized by subscription cycle patterns into daily subscription, periodic subscription, rolling subscription, and minimum holding period types.

Application Channels

Overseas clients must complete non-resident qualification verification (valid for one year) and risk assessment at a Bank of China branch before they can activate investment functions of their bank accounts. After verification, clients can make subsequent purchases via branch counters, mobile banking or online banking.

Required Documents

For overseas clients who already have a BOC account, the following documents must be provided in person:

  • Valid identity documents (must be aged 18 or above)
  • Proof of residence within China for at least one year
  • Proof of a legal source of income in the Chinese mainland

The specific business processing is subject to the final confirmation of the product manager.

Notes

WMPs are issued and managed by wealth management companies. BOC, as a distribution agent, does not assume responsibilities for the investment or redemption of these products. WMPs are not deposits and carry investment risks. Please think carefully before making an investment and bear in mind the consequences of any possible loss.
