Product Introduction
Bank of China acts as an agent for international money transfer companies to provide small-amount, fast, and personal international remittance service. Western Union and MoneyGram are now BOC’s international money transfer partners.
Available Channels
To receive remittances, online channels such as the BOC mobile banking app and online banking, as well as counters at BOC branches are available.
Remitting service for Western Union is available via the BOC mobile banking app or BOC branch counters; for MoneyGram, the service is available at BOC’s branch counters.
Required Documents
For receiving MoneyGram incoming remittance, valid identification documents and an 8-digit reference number are required.
For receiving Western Union incoming remittance, valid identification documents, the receiving currency type, and a 10-digit reference number are required.
For outgoing remittance via money transfer companies, valid identification documents and information such as the payee’s name, country or region, and address are required.
Notes
Among the money transfer company services available at BOC, the eligible currencies for Western Union incoming remittance are US dollars and euros, and the eligible currency for Western Union outgoing remittance is US dollars. For MoneyGram incoming and outgoing remittance, the eligible currency is US dollars.
Clients may authorize another person to act on their behalf when they’re unable to visit a branch counter in person. In accordance with the requirements of the money transfer companies, BOC will review the valid identification documents of the client and their representative, as well as relevant supporting materials to verify the validity of their relations. Transactions involving cash cannot be handled by a representative.
Money transfer company services are for small-amount payments and collections. The single transaction limit at branch counters is the equivalent of $20,000. However, different money transfer companies may have their own specific restrictions on aspects such as the number of transactions and amounts.
