At the end of 2003, Bank of China became one of the first State-owned banks to pilot joint stock reform. On Aug 26, 2004, Bank of China Limited was established in Beijing.

In 2006, it became the first major Chinese commercial bank to be listed on both domestic and international capital markets. The bank has served as the exclusive banking partner of the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games, and the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, providing comprehensive financial services. On Feb 3, 2012, the 100th Anniversary Celebration Conference of Bank of China was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, marking it as the only Chinese financial institution to be continuously operating for a full century.

Leveraging its international network and strengths, Bank of China has expanded its overseas operations, significantly increasing its international influence.
