On June 14 2018, Bank of China and the China Foreign Exchange Trade System (CFETS) jointly launched the CFETS-BOC Traded Bond Index in Shanghai, which is the first traded bond index in the interbank market.
Senior officials from the People's Bank of China, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange, the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, and BOC attended the launching ceremony and witnessed the proceedings, along with representatives from 35 domestic and overseas institutional investors in the interbank market and media.
Chen Siqing, the BOC chairman, stated that the CFETS-BOC Traded Bond Index would better track the trends of the interbank bond market and reflect its liquidity characteristics, facilitating effective bond portfolio investment and risk management for investors.
Starting from June 14 2018, the index has been released to the public at 18:00 on each trading day through data released by the National Interbank Funding Center and the BOC official website.
Subsequently, it has been released through the CFETS internet terminal iTrader and authorized information vendors. Members of the interbank market could apply to subscribe via the interface of the CFETS market data publishing system.
The CFETS-BOC Traded Bond Index includes four sub-indices: the CFETS-BOC Traded Treasury Bond Index, the CFETS-BOC Traded Policy Financial Bond Index, the CFETS-BOC Traded High Credit Rating Bond Index, and the CFETS-BOC Traded High Credit Rating NCD Index.
It took a moderate number of active bonds as its constituent bonds, providing an accurate and practical performance benchmark for domestic and overseas investors. Additionally, the trade index made it easy to replicate the constituent bonds to construct related index products.
Taking the launch of the index series as an opportunity, BOC would further enhance the quality of their services, better manage risks and make contributions to the opening-up of China's financial market.
As an important market maker and the first issuer in the interbank market, BOC, leveraging the CFETS platform, launched related index products for both domestic and overseas investors.
