As the lead underwriter and lead joint bookrunner, Bank of China assisted CLP Power China Limited (CLPPC) in issuing a 1-billion-yuan ($145.2 million) three-year green panda bond on March 11. This issuance marks CLPPC's debut in China's interbank bond market and represents another advancement for BOC in the green finance sector.
The bond is the first green panda bond issued by a non-financial corporate issuer under a green bond framework. Net proceeds will be used exclusively to fund solar and wind power projects that meet new energy financing standards, supporting the development of clean energy initiatives.
In the past few years, BOC has facilitated panda bond issuances by several Hong Kong-based non-financial companies, including Hang Lung Properties, Sun Hung Kai Properties, CTF Services, and Shangri-La Asia. These transactions have bolstered capital market connectivity between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong.
Leveraging its expertise in green bond underwriting and product innovation, BOC continues to advance green financial products, aiding companies in achieving low-carbon and sustainable growth through green financing channels. Looking ahead, BOC plans to further integrate its global network and cross-border debt capital market capabilities to deepen the connection between green industries and financial capital, supporting the high-quality opening of China's financial sector.
