Bank of China Holds RMB International Use Promotion Event in Thailand

Bank of China hosted a promotion for the international use of the renminbi recently in Bangkok, capital of Thailand.

The event gathered nearly 100 participants, including representatives from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, BOC, and major local business enterprises and financial institutions in Thailand.

The event aims to facilitate joint efforts between industrial framework and financial services, as well as regional cooperation and key areas in the Asia-Pacific region. As a part of BOC's global promotion roadshow series in 2026, the event provided a platform for economic, trade and financial exchanges, promoting the international use of the RMB in the Asia-Pacific region.

At the promotion, officials, financiers, and business communities from China and Thailand explored ways of deepening cooperation in local currency settlements, helping enterprises to reduce foreign exchange costs and mitigate exchange rate fluctuation risks, and contributing to the stability of the industrial and supply chains in the Asia-Pacific region. The discussions aimed to create broader opportunities for enterprises and financial institutions in both countries to conduct cross-border business operations and financial cooperation, as well as to boost overall commerce and trade in the region.

Founded in February 1994, BOC was the first Chinese-funded bank to establish a branch in Thailand. It became the core financial institution to serve the local market. It extended its RMB investing and financing scenarios and has offered a full range of RMB products in Thailand for over 30 years. BOC won the title of best bank for RMB foreign exchange trading in 2026 after it was awarded the titles of best bank for transaction services, best bank for cross-border business solution, and best bank for cross-border services. As such, its brand influence and market recognition continue to grow.

BOC will continue to leverage its extensive global network to diversify cross-border RMB financial services and contribute to the overall high-quality construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.
