Ge Haijiao, chairman of Bank of China, held a working meeting with Chen Zhenlin, administrator of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), in Beijing on July 15. Huang Xueling, member of the Party Committee and vice president of BOC, and Zhang Zuqiang, member of the Party Leadership Group and deputy administrator of CMA, attended the meeting.

Ge highlighted BOC's long-standing efforts to support climate change response and disaster relief and mitigation, saying the bank fully supports deeper participation by China's meteorological authorities in global meteorological governance. 

He noted that China is accelerating the modernization of its meteorological scientific and technological capabilities and social services. Through MAZU, its AI-powered meteorological early warning solution, China has made the leap from a participant in global meteorological governance to a provider of public goods, he added.

Ge said BOC will continue to leverage its global network and integrated capabilities to support the global promotion of MAZU and strengthen international cooperation in meteorology. 

He expressed BOC's readiness to increase financial support for meteorological science and technology innovation, with a focus on key areas such as breakthroughs in core meteorological technologies and the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements, thereby providing comprehensive financial support for meteorological modernization.

Chen outlined CMA's deep involvement in global meteorological governance and its efforts to promote MAZU. 

CMA is deeply involved in global meteorological governance, with MAZU already deployed in seven countries and used via the cloud in more than 40 countries, he said, adding that it is an important public good supporting the implementation of the Global Development Initiative. 

Chen expressed hope that the two sides would tap the potential for cooperation and deepen exchanges in areas such as joint scientific and technological innovation and professional talent development. 

By leveraging BOC's global service network and CMA's international service capabilities, the two sides can jointly promote deeper participation by China's meteorological authorities in the work of the World Meteorological Organization and further explore new models and approaches for mutually reinforcing financial and meteorological services, he said.
