Bank of China Hosts International Use of RMB Roadshow in Chile

Bank of China co-hosted the "Global RMB Usage Presentation in Chile" promotion event, together with the Cross-Border Interbank Payment System, or CIPS Co Ltd.

The event was the ninth stop of BOC's global roadshow series on the international use of the renminbi in 2026, with its theme of deepening China-Chile financial connectivity to support the high-quality development of economic and trade between the two nations.

More than 100 guests attended the event, including representatives of the Chinese embassy in Chile, the Central Bank of Chile, as well as major local financial and commercial institutions and leading enterprises, with the Guangdong branch of the People's Bank of China giving a video address.

At the event, experts engaged in in-depth discussions on key topics such as RMB cross-border investment and financing, cross-border payments and settlements, the opening-up of China's capital markets, and new opportunities for financial cooperation between China and Chile under the backdrop of RMB international use.

Since entering the Chilean market in 2018, BOC has provided comprehensive and high-quality financial services to enterprises from both countries. It facilitated the first RMB financing in the Chilean market, opened RMB accounts, and provided settlement services for leading local companies operating in the agriculture and food sectors.

Additionally, it issued over RMB 1 billion in loans to overseas companies operated by the State Grid Corporation of China, continuously extending the usage of RMB in bilateral trade settlements, investment and financing, and in the financial market.

As the first direct participant in the RMB CIPS in Chile, BOC took the lead in promoting the application of the system. Moreover, it has continuously developed the local interbank RMB settlements and clearing market, contributing to the establishment of RMB clearing infrastructure.

In 2025, its cross-border RMB clearing volume in Chile exceeded RMB 10 billion, maintaining the market lead.

It was awarded the "Best renminbi Bank in Chile" by the renowned financial magazine The Asset in 2026, promoting the international use of the currency as well as enhancing bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
