Bank of China Hosts Roadshow on RMB International Use in Mauritius

Under the theme deepening China-Mauritius financial connectivity to support high-quality development of bilateral economic and trade ties, Bank of China hosted a roadshow on the international use of RMB in Mauritius recently.

The event was the 12th stop of BOC's global roadshow on the international use of RMB in 2026, which has so far reached five continents, with previous sessions held in France, Serbia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Australia, South Korea, Brazil, Peru, Chile, Tanzania, and Kenya. It drew more than 80 guests, including representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Mauritius, the Bank of Mauritius, major local financial institutions, universities, and Chinese enterprises operating in the country.

At the event, participants held in-depth discussions on expanding use cases for RMB in Mauritius, focusing on optimizing RMB clearing mechanisms, serving the RMB financing needs of all types of market participants, and deepening bilateral local-currency cooperation. These discussions opened up multiple avenues for trade and two-way investment and financing between the two countries.

As the most globalized Chinese bank, BOC serves as the RMB clearing bank in three African markets — South Africa, Zambia, and Mauritius. It was the first Chinese bank to serve as an RMB clearing bank in Africa and has the widest RMB clearing network on the continent, with its RMB business now extending to more than 20 African countries.

Since being designated an RMB clearing bank in 2024, Bank of China (Mauritius) Limited has steadily advanced its RMB business, providing local enterprises and financial institutions with a full suite of integrated financial services covering RMB clearing and settlement, liquidity management, currency exchange, and financing support. To date, the bank has opened RMB correspondent accounts for 11 local financial institutions, and its RMB clearing volume surpassed RMB 10 billion in the first half of 2026 — giving strong impetus to the use of RMB in Mauritius and supporting high-quality development of China-Africa economic and trade ties.
