Zhang Hui, president of Bank of China, and Chen Zhenlin, administrator of the China Meteorological Administration (CMA), held a working meeting in Beijing on Sept 20 and jointly attended a donation ceremony in support of the MAZU Scholarship and the construction of a customized MAZU cloud platform for Nepal.
Huang Xueling, executive vice president of BOC, and Zhang Zuqiang, deputy administrator of the CMA, also participated in the event.
In 2026, meteorological departments have used MAZU to provide meteorological monitoring and early-warning support to disaster-hit areas affected by typhoons in Vietnam and debris flows along the China-Nepal border, among others. Currently, as demand for MAZU's overseas deployment continues to grow rapidly, customized local applications have been deployed in seven countries, while MAZU is used via the cloud in more than 50 countries and regions. MAZU has also made good progress in its global promotion and application.
In July, BOC and the CMA jointly released a service plan to support the global deployment of MAZU at the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, deepening the finance-meteorology collaborative ecosystem and providing sustained support for the overseas deployment of Chinese solutions for global public governance.
Zhang said that assisting Nepal in deploying the MAZU intelligent meteorological early-warning platform is another concrete example of BOC supporting Chinese meteorological technology going global and providing end-to-end services for MAZU's overseas deployment. BOC will continue to deepen cooperation with the CMA, jointly promote the deployment of MAZU in more countries and regions, and, through donations to the MAZU Scholarship, help train more multidisciplinary professionals in meteorology for countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.
Chen noted that the CMA is willing to continue deepening cooperation with BOC, jointly participate in global meteorological governance, and further develop and improve the customized early-warning platform based on Nepal's needs. It is also willing to work with BOC to enhance the effectiveness of the MAZU Scholarship, develop green finance, and jointly explore new models and approaches for mutually reinforcing meteorological and financial services.
