Macau Notes (2008)
Under the No. 20/2008 administrative regulation of Macau S.A.R., Bank of China was authorized to issue the new version of Macau notes in MOP 1,000, 500, 100, 50, 20 and 10 in January 2009. With the theme of World Culture Heritage of Macau, the new version of notes fully demonstrates Macau's combination of Chinese and Western cultures, and its state-of-the-art technologies in note paper fabrication, printing techniques, and anti-counterfeit features.
The design of the front side of the new version Macau notes is characterized by selected landscapes in the Macau World Culture Heritage Directory, demonstrating the architecture of Macau with mixed Chinese and Western style which has been formed over the past centuries and displaying Macau's essence of multi-culture coexistence. The designs on the MOP 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000 notes selected in a chronicle order are: A-Ma Temple, Ruins of St. Paul, Dom Pedro V Theatre, Guia Fortress, Casa da Cheang and Leal Senado Building. On the back of the note, the design of Bank of China Tower in Macau in the background of four bridges in Macau symbolizes Macau's function as a bridge between Chinese and Western cultures as well as the function of MOP in Macau's economic development. Modern elements are introduced into the design of the new notes to state the richest possible history with the same theme from different angles. The size and color of the new note are same as the prevailing MOP notes issued by Bank of China.
